About CTA : Overview
Cinnamon Training Academy (CTA) Limited, Public Private Partnership (PPP) Company with limited liability was incorporated in Sri Lanka on 13th June2006 and registered under the Companies Act. The Shareholders of the company are members of the Ceylon Cinnamon Association (CCA) and The Spice Council (TSC) who are dedicated for the development of the Cinnamon Industry.
CTA was financially supported by Government of Sri Lanka and UNIDO/WTO- STDF, IFEAT and 15 leading cinnamon producers and exporters.
To be the Institute of Excellence in providing training and skills for jobs pertaining to Cinnamon Industry in Sri Lanka
- Provide accredited NVQ training & certificates for workers in cinnamon industry and attract young people
- Enhance the quality of life and social acceptance of those engaged in cinnamon processing
- Assist policy makers through information and undertake advocacy and service
- Encourage Research and action focused solutions to achieve growth and development in quality products and meet with the conformity requirements of high-end markets.
- Provide consultancy services for cinnamon industry in line with our vision
The primary objective
The primary objective of CTA is to “provide service to train value chain actors in the cinnamon industry for increasing the production capacity and enhance quality and standards compliance capacity to elevate the industry to a national symbol of quality and excellence”.
Values of CTA
It is the bridge of linking public and private sector establishments involved in cinnamon industry. The CTA has pioneered to establish an international trade compliance system for Ceylon cinnamon industry in Sri Lanka. The CTA has instrumental in pioneering the implementation of recognizing the industry experts through prior learner’s assessment program in coordination with NAITA. The CTA also implements consultancies and advisory services disseminating the knowledge and technology for existing and new investments in the industry. Nationally accredited training frame work recognizes the skills and capacities of cinnamon households/individuals awarding a National Vocational Qualification for level 3 & 4 for those qualifying after an assessment carried out by TVRC registered CTA is a well-equipped training facility with learned and trained resources that is capable of leading the industry for competitive trade and sustainable income generation for its stakeholders.
CTA being a Public Private Partnership (PPP) training academy is working closely or in relationship with following Ministries, Departments, Institutes and corporations of the GOSL & relevant International Organisations in our endeavour to be the Center of Excellence for Ceylon cinnamon

Welcome to the Cinnamon Training Academy.
The primary objective of Cinnamon Training Academy (CTA) is to “provide service to train value chain actors in the cinnamon industry for increasing the production capacity and enhance quality and standards compliance capacity to elevate the industry to a national symbol of quality and excellence”.
Centre of Excellence
We are committed to build CTA as the Centre of Excellence for Cinnamon Industry in Sri Lanka and aims to achieve following objectives:
• Train operators and enterprises at all stages of cinnamon value chain to increase the production capacity and enhance quality and standards compliance
• Improve social outlook and maintain status of cinnamon industry
• Promote and certify quality and standards conformity in cinnamon trade
• Provide R&D services and transfer New Technology know-how
• Disseminate pertinent Information and support advocacy
Training programs monitored and certified by (TVEC).
We are proud and honoured to be the only certified academy n Sri Lanka to offer internationally recognized National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) courses for the cinnamon industry. Our training programs are conducted in partnership with reputable National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) system implemented and monitored by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).
First institution to award NVQ certificates for any agro based product in the country
Cinnamon Training Academy has created history by training actors in the cinnamon industry and awarding them NVQ certificates as this a first for any agro based product in the country which is not available even for tea, rubber and coconut
Our Specially designed study programs will guide persons with prior gained skills and also youth, school leavers willing to grow into vocationally qualified and certified cinnamon industry workers. We are committed towards improving quality of our training. I believe that students who complete their courses with our Academy will be competent to deliver best service at all levels. By the end of training CTA qualified persons will be ready to take up a variety of roles in the cinnamon industry.
Diploma/ Degree programs with University of Vocational Technology University (UNVOTEC)
Master’s and Doctoral Level programs: MBA (Management), MBA (Project Management) Research Degrees with the coordination of Universities of Sri Lanka.
Starts new courses for 2016
Just after the ceremonial opening of the CTA purpose built cinnamon processing building we commenced training theoretical part of the program at the CTA premises in small batches and on the job training (OJT) practical in our shareholder Director’s GMP certified facilities. We hope to continue our NVQ certified training programs in this manner till we build the proposed lecture hall, laboratory and hostels.

There are two methods to obtain NVQ level 3&4 training for occupations namely Harvesters, Processors, Field Officer and Factory Officer
1. NVQ certificate through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
2. NVQ certificate by following a Competency Based Training (CBT)
